Following the example of many, many, many Volunteers before me, next week I face the challenge and exhilaration of returning to the states after 2 years in the Peace Corps.
I am nervous, excited, sad, happy, disappointed.
Since issues with my bladder are unresolved, the PCMO recommended I consider shortening post-COS travel plans and returning home soon to see a specialist. Since every day is unpredictable in terms of how I’ll be feeling, I decided she was right and booked my tickets home for next week.
This means that my plans to climb and travel in South Africa are kaput. I am hugely disappointed that I’m not going to South Africa. I am sad that I’ve been here for over 2 years, and haven’t seen or done as much as I’d have liked. I am grateful for all I have seen and done, and the lessons this place has taught me, though.
More reflections and random thoughts to come as I pack and wrap things up.
